OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

TUESDAY, 1ST JUNE, 2021.  THEME: IS GOD SILENT. MEMORY VERSE: “ Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:” ( Isaiah 59:1) BIBLE READING: Isaiah 59:1-3 (KJV) 1. Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear; 2. But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. 3. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. MESSAGE: Usually, when people think God is silent, He may be speaking but they are just not listening. At other times, they don’t want to accept what He has to say.  God can also be silent when your covenant with Him has been broken. This happened with King Saul who wanted to hear from God as well as familiar spirits. If you have prayed to know God’s mind on certain issues ...

MONDAY 31ST MAY, 2021. THEME: THE CHOICE IS YOURS. MEMORY VERSE: “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you, life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”  (Deuteronomy 30:19) BIBLE READING: Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (KJV) 19. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live; 20. That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him; for he is thy life, and the length of thy days; that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.   MESSAGE : Sometimes, you have to make a choice between two or more alternatives. As long as you are alive, you will always have to make choices; whether in your career, business, of whom ...

FRIDAY, 28TH MAY, 2021. THEME: HONOUR THEM NOW! MEMORY VERSE: “Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.” (Mark 14:9)   BIBLE READING: Mark 14:3-9 (KJV) 3 . And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. 4. And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor.  5. And they murmured against her. 6. And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. 7. For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good; but me ye have not always. 8. She hath done what she could; she is come af...

THURSDAY, 27TH MAY, 2021. THEME: THEY BELONG TO GOD. MEMORY VERSE: “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” (Psalm 127:3) BIBLE READING: Psalm 127:3-5 (KJV) 3. Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD; and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. MESSAGE: As we see in today’s Bible reading, God owns all children. I know this because when God created Adam and Eve, He later pronounced blessings upon them so they could multiply and be fruitful.  He did this so He would not have to go through the same process as when He created them, all over again.  Thus, the product of the union of the first family God created became His own reward.  It therefore, follows that anyone who claims to own a child is exhibiting ignorance....

PARENTS’ ROLE IN CAREER SELECTION OF CHILDREN

Image
INTRODUCTION Career selection is a process of choosing a profession that can help us to achieve our goals and dreams in life. Since parents had gone through this process in one way or the other in their journey in life, they can assist their children from making mistakes in selecting career. Parents need to be facilitators and not to influence their choices. Hence, the role of parents in their lives holds a lot of value and importance.  IMPORTANT FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED BY PARENTS 1. Interest: It is very difficult to spend your life working in a field that you are not interested in. Hence, the parents should look into the interests of their child and consider it while shortlisting career options.    2. Availability of the Course : The courses leading towards a desired career should be available easily in the proximity and should not burden the student. 3. Informed Decision over Perceived Mentality: It is very easy for a child to get swayed by peer pressure i...

WEDNESDAY, 26TH MAY, 2021. THEME: NO IMPOSSIBILITY WITH GOD. MEMORY VERSE: For with God nothing shall be impossible. Luke 1:37 BIBLE READING: 2 Kings 2:10 10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so. MESSAGE: Nothing can be too difficult for God because, according to Psalm 62:11, power belongs to Him.  Jesus also confirms this in Matthew 28:18:  “...saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” God can do anything because He has unlimited power and resources. I know this because God says of Himself in Haggai 2:8 “The silver is mine, and the gold is mine...” How influential a person is can also determine how he or she can affect your situation.  2 Kings 4:8-17 bears record of a rich woman who took care of Elisha and his servant. When Elisha wanted to say “thank you” for her hospitality, the woman said she needed nothing because not on...

TUESDAY 25TH MAY, 2021. THEME: ETERNAL INVESTMENTS . MEMORY VERSE: “And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.” (Luke 5:11) BIBLE READING: Mark 10:28-30 (KJV) 28. Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. 29. And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, 30. But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. MESSAGE: When God calls anyone to do His work, there is always glory ahead for such a fellow. Elisha forsook the flourishing farming business of his father, and God made him a national figure, such that kings called him “Father” (2 Kings 6:21).  In the Bible reading of today, Jesus assured His disciples tha...

MONDAY 24TH MAY, 2021 THEME: WONDERS OF DIVINE VICTORY. MEMORY VERSE: “ Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.”  (Psalm 20:7) BIBLE READING: 1 Samuel 17:44-50 (KJV) 44. And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field. 45. Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield; but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 46. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47. And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear; for the battle is the LOR...

SUNDAY 23RD MAY, 2021. THEME: THE FULLNESS OF TIME. MEMORY VERSE: “ To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” (Ecclesiastes 3:1) BIBLE READING: Acts 2:1-4 (KJV) 1. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. MESSAGE: As Jesus promised, when the day of Pentecost was fully come, the Holy Spirit duly came upon His disciples. In like manner, Elizabeth, despite the delay with bearing the fruit of the womb, conceived and gave birth to John the Baptist in the fullness of God’s time (Luke 1:11-16).  These events confirm that our God is a God of times and ...

SATURDAY, 22ND MAY, 2021. THEME: MAKE YOUR REQUEST KNOWN TO GOD (2). MEMORY VERSE: “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”  (John 14:14) BIBLE READING: Esther 8:1-8 (KJV) 1. On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews’ enemy unto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was unto her. 2. And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman. 3. And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews. 4. Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Esther. So Esther arose, and stood before the king, 5. And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to re...

FRIDAY, 21ST MAY, 2021. THEME: MAKE YOUR REQUEST KNOWN TO GOD (1). MEMORY VERSE: “ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”  (Matthew 7:7) BIBLE READING: 2 Kings 2:9 (KJV) 9. And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elishap said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. MESSAGE: While God indeed knows all things, He still wants His children to make their requests to Him. Despite knowing that Bartimaeus was blind, Jesus still asked him what he wanted (Mark 10:51). He did this because He knows that our needs differ from person to person and from time to time.  For example, while Elisha wanted the double portion of his master’s anointing, Gehazi wanted money and other material gifts. Esau wanted food instead of the right of the firstborn, whereas Jacob wanted the privileges of the first born...

THURSDAY, 20TH MAY, 2021. THEME: REPENT! MEMORY VERSE: My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 1 John 2:1 BIBLE READING: 1 Kings 18:29-39 29 And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded. 30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down. 31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name: 32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed. 33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and...

WEDNESDAY, 19TH MAY, 2021. THEME: DEALING WITH PRINCIPALITIES AND POWERS. MEMORY VERSE: “ Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”  (Matthew 18:18) BIBLE READING: Ephesians 6:10-18 (KJV) 10. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16. Above al...

TUESDAY 18TH MAY, 2021. THEME: HAVE FAITH, NOT FEAR. MEMORY VERSE: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  2 Timothy 1:7 BIBLE READING: Psalm 91:5-6 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. MESSAGE: If you have given your life to Jesus, then you should have nothing to fear because you will begin to dwell in the secret place of the Most High where you are assured of His protection. There was no fear in man until he allowed the devil in.  It was when the devil convinced Adam and Eve to disobey God that fear came in. After Adam and Eve sinned, they had to hide themselves when they heard God coming. When God called, Adam said he heard God's voice and he was afraid (Genesis 3:10). Fear is the opposite of faith. While faith means that you believe God, fear means that you...

MONDAY, 17TH MAY, 2021. THEME: HE WILL TAKE YOU THERE! MEMORY VERSE: “ To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.”  (Revelation 3:21) BIBLE READING: John 14:1-3 (KJV) 1. Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. MESSAGE: The ultimate goal of all genuine Christians is to make Heaven; this is why Jesus died for mankind. Jesus said of Himself in Luke 19:10: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Only overcomers can make it to Heaven. How then can you overcome? First, you must overcome all the evil thoughts in your heart.  Our Lord Jesus said in Revelation 3:20: Behold, I stan...

SUNDAY 16TH MAY, 2021. THEME: YOU CAN BE RICH AND RIGHTEOUS. MEMORY VERSE: “ Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.” (Proverbs 8:18) BIBLE READING: Malachi 3:10-12 (KJV) 10. Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers? 11. Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god. 12. The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts. MESSAGE: Many children of God have misconceptions about prosperity.  Some think that being a Christian means that they have to be poor, forgetting that God Himself said in Proverbs 8:18: Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and...

JOSEPH: STUDY ABOUT DIVINE RIGHTEOUSNESS PART 7

JOSEPH: STUDY ABOUT DIVINE RIGHTEOUSNESS PART 7 TEXT: Gen. 39: 7 - 12    INTRODUCTION: In the last part of this series, we saw that everything that God allows is for a purpose, that sufferings always brings out the best in every person and that promotion is of the Lord. Today, as we continue our study, m ay God bless us richly in Jesus Name. Amen.  1.  ADULTERY AND FORNICATI ON: THE DEVI L'S NO.1 WEAPON Joseph was tempted sexually, as it was then, so it is now Heb. 13: 4. Satan knows how much God hates adultery and fornication, that is why he uses them as his number one weapon against growing Christians. Today, he has many “brothers” and “sisters” who are nothing but agents of the devil himself around.  Gen. 39: 7-12; Exo. 20: 14; I Thess. 4: 3- 7; Pro. 5: 15- 21; Pro. 5: 3- 5; Pro. 6: 27- 29; Pro. 6: 32; Eph. 5: 3; I Cor. 6: 9, 15- 20 2.  KEEP YOURSELF PURE Joseph refused to yield to the temptress Eph.  5: 27.  He refused to take the sugar-coated...

TUESDAY 11TH MAY, 2021.  THEME: SERVICE TO THE ANOINTED. MEMORY VERSE: “ For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto he shall not lose his reward.”   (Mark 9:41) BIBLE READING: Matthew 10:40-42 (KJV) 40. He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. 41. He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. 42. And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. MESSAGE: Another reason Elisha achieved uncommon greatness is that he was devoted to God’s servant, Elijah.  The Bible says that Elisha poured water on Elijah’s hands, meaning that he served him.  Beloved, there are lots of bles...

MONDAY, 10TH MAY, 2021. THEME: EXPECTING A BETTER TOMORROW? MEMORY VERSE: “ But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9) BIBLE READING: 1 Kings 19:19-21 (KJV) 19. So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth; and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him. 20. And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again; for what have I done to thee? 21. And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him. MESSAGE: Some people do not get the best from God be...
